🥄 Kids Steps:

  • Add ingredients to the pan and stir. With a little adult oversight, this can be a fun and simple task for toddlers.
  • Crack the eggs on the counter (hard surface), and then into a bowl. If any pieces of the shell break off into the bowl, either dip your fingers into water and then fish out the shells, or use a large piece of the egg shell to pull them out. It's cool how the shells pieces will stick together.
  • Set timer for sausage frittata. This is a good chance for kids to learn about cooking times. Let them flip the oven light on to watch the cooking process too.

✏️ Expert Tips and Tricks

  • Cook the egg mixture on low to medium heat to prevent eggs from browning.
  • Make sure your skillet is oven-safe before placing your sausage frittata in the oven.
  • To plate...cut sausage frittata into 6 pie-like slices. You can have your frittata with some toast and/or a yogurt sundae (yogurt, mixed fruit, and drizzle of honey) on the side.

🧂Variations

Meat- If sausage isn't your perforce, try your favorite ground meat, like pork or beef or even ground turkey. You can also omit the meat altogether!

❓FAQ

Can you use milk instead of cream in a frittata?

Yes, milk can be used in your frittata in place of cream. Keep in mind that the fattier the dairy, the creamier and/or fluffier your frittata's texture will be. Without dairy, a frittata would turn out flatter, like an omelette.

What is the best pan for a frittata?

You will definitely need an oven-safe, non-stick to make your frittata. We love our Calphalon pans!

What's the difference between a frittata and a quiche?

A quiche is baked slowly in a pie crust, while a frittata is cooked quickly without a crust. Some people describe frittatas as unfolded omelettes.

What is the difference between a frittata and a Spanish Tortilla (a.k.a. Tortilla Espanola)?

Both dishes are egg-based, but Spanish Tortillas are cooked exclusively on the stove, while frittatas finish cooking in the oven. Spanish Tortillas are also known for being an egg and potato dish, whereas frittatas may or may not include potatoes.

The Easiest Sausage Frittata Recipe (2024)

FAQs

How do you keep frittata fluffy? ›

Tips for Fluffy Eggs

Don't overcook! Overcooking eggs makes them rubbery. When you remove the Frittata from the oven, it will continue to cook, especially if you are using cast iron, which retains heat well. You do want it to be set and not liquidy, but keep this in mind so you keep the texture perfect.

Can I cook sausage and eggs in the same pan? ›

Heat a small skillet (about 7-9"diameter) over medium high heat. When hot, coat lightly with cooking spray and cook the sausage links, rotating and turning, until lightly golden brown all around (several minutes). Crack the eggs into a small bowl. Pour over the sausage links in the skillet.

How do you make frittata not watery? ›

If the eggs are set, pull the frittata from the oven and let it stand 5 minutes before slicing. If you notice the frittata is still too wet or runny in the center, bake for a few more minutes watching carefully.

When making a frittata, which ingredient should be pre-cooked prior to adding it to the egg mixture? ›

Tough vegetables like potatoes, squash and onions need to be pre-cooked since they will not have time enough to soften before the eggs are done. Raw meats such as bacon and sausage also need more time and heat to cook through safely, so get them prepped before your other ingredients.

What is the frittata formula? ›

The Frittata Formula

Frittatas are incredibly simple. For every six large eggs, you'll want to mix in ¼ cup of milk or cream, ¼ cup of cheese, and about 3 cups of meat or vegetables. The small amount of milk and cheese keeps the eggs soft and creamy and the meat and vegetables give you endless options.

What is the best pan to make a frittata? ›

Use a cast-iron skillet.

The best choice for making frittatas, cast iron skillets can safely go from stovetop to oven, and they conduct heat well and evenly. Seasoning a cast-iron pan gives it a non-stick quality, so a well-seasoned skillet will result in the easiest slicing & serving.

What to cook first, sausage or eggs? ›

Place the skillet over medium heat, and add the sausage. Once sausage begins to sizzle, add the egg. 5. Using a silicone spatula, stir sausage and egg mixture occasionally until egg begins to cook and resembles scrambled eggs.

Should I cook eggs or sausage first? ›

Pour eggs into a griddle. Add cheese and cook until eggs are set. Stir in sausage and serve warm.

What takes longer to cook, eggs or sausage? ›

It takes more heat/time to safely cook sausage than it does to fully cook eggs. This would be especially true for omelettes, where the egg is in contact with the hot pan, and the filling only warms indirectly.

How to tell when a frittata is done? ›

Cook the frittata in the oven just until the centre is no longer wobbly and the edges are golden-brown. If still unsure, place a knife into the centre of the frittata. If raw eggs run out, keep cooking. You want the eggs to be just set as the frittata will keep cooking while it's standing.

Do you add milk to frittata? ›

Adding a bit of dairy, whether it's cream or thick yogurt, is essential for getting the moisture and creaminess of the frittata just right. For every dozen eggs, use a half cup of dairy. It can be cream, whole milk, sour cream, yogurt, crème fraîche, even cottage cheese.

Why is my frittata bland? ›

If you don't add seasoning to your frittata, it will end up tasting bland. Season your eggs with salt and pepper before putting them in the pan–a sprinkle of salt on top of the eggs before they bake will only flavor the top crust of the eggs, and not the whole dish.

What kind of cheese is good in frittata? ›

I love to use soft cheeses like goat cheese. Sharp cheddar and Parmesan are delicious as well. You can stir up to one cup of grated or crumbled cheese directly into the egg mixture, or reserve some for topping the frittata.

When determining how many eggs to use in a frittata generally? ›

The egg to dairy ratio: If you are making a smaller frittata use 6 eggs and 1/4 cup of dairy, and if you are making a larger frittata use 12 eggs and 1/2 cup of dairy. You can use milk, sour cream, yogurt, milk kefir, or any other form of dairy you have on hand - just make sure it is full fat.

How do you keep frittata from burning on the bottom? ›

I keep a lower heat to try to keep the bottom from burning. I strongly suggest using a nonstick or well-seasoned cast iron pan (I LOVE this pan - crisps, frittatas, casseroles, the best)…or the whole thing can be baked in a well greased, oven-proof dish.

Why does my egg frittata go flat? ›

A frittata is always going to deflate some after you take it out of the oven, you cannot prevent that. Air and the moisture in the egg expands as they heat, causing the frittata to grow. While it is grown in size the egg hardens, trapping the expanded gasses and stabilizing the structure.

How do you keep eggs fluffy? ›

Use A Non-Stick Pan

A non-stick pan is the best way to whip up fresh and fluffy eggs. You shouldn't need to scrub or scrap the eggs off the bottom of the pan, and unless extremely seasoned, any other pan will leave you with more eggs inside it than on your plate.

How to prevent frittata from deflating? ›

Don't overdo it with the dairy

It can leave the dish soggy, keep it from holding its shape, and may even prevent your eggs from firming up entirely. To avoid falling into the "too much moisture" trap when prepping your next frittata, always completely drain any fresh ingredients before adding them to your pan.

What makes frittata spongy? ›

Use the right number of eggs: If you underfill or overfill your skillet, the texture of the frittata may be compromised. Thin frittatas easily overcook; thick ones may cook too long on the outer edges before the inside is set. That leaves you with an eggy, spongy dish.
